Why does your dojo have other activities? Shouldn’t you focus on training ‘on the mat’?

Accepted Answer

While our main focus is in the dojo, we also believe that real-world experience and a variety of skills are valuable to have too. From defending against a physical attack, to danger awareness, to outdoor skills & first aid, to online safety - there are many types of self-protection in today’s world.

Question 2

Is this authentic? I thought ninjas were only in movies & comics...?

Accepted Answer

Good question. Many fakes are out there. :) Don't worry, this is genuine Ninjutsu. The martial arts we teach & study go back centuries. Our Chief Instructor is a direct student of the Grandmaster & has been training for 40+ years. Our dojo has also been recognized & vetted by the Japanese Consulate.

Question 3

Do you train with weapons? How long before I can start doing that training?

Accepted Answer

Our art is very versatile & includes: Striking (punching, kicking, etc.), Grappling (like joint locks, holds & escapes), and Weapons, as well as non-physical aspects, like meditation. Weapons training is built into the art, not an add-on, & you'll learn to use various tools & weapons from the start.

Question 4

A martial art school near me offers a ‘Ninja Kids’ class. Is that the same thing you do?

Accepted Answer

It is not at all the same thing. Some may 'borrow' the name Ninja, since it's cool & attracts students. Our school & art are 100% authentic, and we teach the genuine art of Ninjutsu. “Imitation is the highest form of flattery”, so we appreciate the compliment, but they aren't teaching Ninjutsu. :)

Question 5

Do I have to study another art first, before learning Ninjutsu?

That's a common myth, but not true. If you've studied another art, some aspects of that training may carry over & can be something to build from. If you've not trained before, there are likely fewer habits to unlearn. :) Both cases can be good, depending on the individual student & their approach.

Question 6

How long does it take to become proficient or to earn promotions?

Accepted Answer

We focus on individual growth for each student. Everyone learns & grows at their own pace, so you'll have a lot of impact on how quickly you progress. :) Regardless of rank, as a dojo member, you'll learn practical & useful techniques for keeping yourself safe, from the time you start training.
